Nazar Battu AMS
This project began during the peak of Covid, a time marked by fear, uncertainty, and sudden changes to everyday life. In collaboration with Chandu Sontake and Raj Dongre, hand-painted Nazar Battu tiles and posters were created in Nagpur during Farid’s visit to India and later installed across Amsterdam. And riso prints and cutouts were made in Amsterdam with NotShitPrint. Using a familiar symbol of protection, the project became an expression of care and protection for the city.
*The Nazar Battu is a protective symbol often seen outside Indian homes, shops, and on trucks. Used to ward off the evil eye, it is part of an everyday visual language of care, safety, and good fortune.
