The Other Marathon
Tiny Miracles, Patta Running
Mumbai, India
The Other Marathon is a project developed in collaboration with Tiny Miracles that rethinks endurance beyond sport. Working with women from the Pardhi community, part of a Denotified Tribe, communities once labelled “criminal” under British colonial rule and still living with that stigma today, the project brings visibility to forms of resilience the city rarely acknowledges.
During the Tata Mumbai Marathon, 65,000 runners turned Mumbai’s streets into a race track, but few embodied endurance more than Jamuna, Chandana and Rupi. Because this marathon is one they already run every day: at traffic signals, knocking on car windows, being ignored, carrying flowers and nimbu mirchi. In slippers, they covered 10K while raising awareness and funds, shifting the focus from athletic performance to the lived realities of survival, labour, and visibility in the city.
